Breathless!

As we didn't go to the gym yesterday and today was a bank holiday we did go today. It was a bit warm and both of us found it quite hard breathing - especially on the bike!

Once we'd got back and had a bit of lunch Nikki went off to take some bottles to the bottle bank and I went down to sort out my mate Kevin's daughter's laptop and to set up a wireless network for them. It didn't take too long, in fact doing I spent half the time waiting for the laptop to do various updates.

We sorted out some clothing when I got back, and then spent the evening watching a few bits on television, not that there was much on!

Hectic!

We were a bit naughty and didn't got to the gym this morning, opting to have a bit of a lie-in instead.

When we checked the lottery results - we found we'd had another win foud numbers this time - a whopping £80! :)

Nikki popped out to get some provisions (and our winnings!) as we had her dad and his wife Myra coming over for lunch, then when she got back I did the vegetables while Nikki did a bit of tidying round.

They arrived not long after 2pm, it was around 3;30pm before we sat down to lunch. Afterwards, Dennis and I then nipped down to Farsley Celtic to see Josh as Myra didn't particularly want to go down. We had a couple of drinks and a bit of a natter with Josh and Stuart, but it was a bit hectic (and noisy!) due to there being a children's football tournament earlier in the day. Dennis and Myra were babysitting and so had to be off not long after we'd got back.

In the evening Nikki and I just watched a few bits on the box and my mate Andy rang up for a bit of a natter.

Should have stayed away...

We were rudely awoken just after 8am by my on-call phone ringing (yes I'm on call again this week  ), the problem wasn't anything really, so I didn't have to get up. We did get up around 9am, and then went into Pudsey after breakfast as I had sone eBay packages to send off - but none to pick up!

I had a bit of a strum on my guitar a bit later on, before we headed out again. It's Nikki's nephew Josh's 18th this weekend and he was having a few drinks at The Halfway House, at Bramley so we went down for a couple of hours.

In the evening we went out to Kebabeesh with my sister Jacqueline, her husband Andrew and two boys Mark and Ben. It was a pleasant evening and everyone enjoyed their food.

We came back to ours afterwards for a drink, The Arctic Monkeys were on at Reading and we caught the final bit of their set, but I can' say they were that impressive,in fact the singer, Alex Turner appeared as though he had either had too much to drink or had too much of some other substance... If that's what going to America has done for them, they'd have been better staying away... A shame really because only a couple of years ago their Glastonbury was storming! :-/

We are not amused...

Nothing to wake us before the alarm clock this morning and Nikki's usual Friday morning meeting had been postponed until this afternoon, which meant, for a Friday at least, we had a bit of a lie-in!

I did a bit of tidying up around the Plone stuff from yesterday, making some notes on what I'd done (for future reference!) and sending a couple of emails, then it was back to the Java. I helped out with a bit of styling and jQuery that people were struggling with, had a look at a couple of defects. I didn't want to start anything too involved.

Nikki went off to do the shopping and I got some of the eBay items that finished tonight packed up rady for sending - although up to press I've only had one payment!

Unfortunately there wasn't any German comedy to watch tonight :( - instead it was bloomin' football (not even German football at that - it was the European super Cup - whatever that is  ) which some may find entertaining, but not us. Instead we watched The Tudors and a couple of other bits.

Bump!

Keith was up and away at around 5:45am - he didn't make much noise, but we still both heard him go. Then Postie came at around 7am with another couple of parcels.

At work I had a pretty good day on Plone, managing to get the stuff I'd been doing yesterday installed and working correctly. :) There are still a few other bits for me to investigate but that will have to wait a while, tomorrow it's back to the Java.

I had a text from my sister Jacqueline to say that her son Ben had managed to get two grade Cs in the GCSEs that he'd done. Excellent, especially given that he did them two years early and has missed around four months of school due to illness.

I also had an email from our friends Gary and Monica in Austria, we hadn't heard from them for a while, so it was great to hear from them and find out how they are getting on.

The other items I have on eBay all finish tomorrow and there have been a number of bids - let's hope they continue to come in!

It was gym and keep fit in the evening, I spoke to my mum and Jacqueline on the phone, then a bit later later Nikki's brother rang up. apparently he was involved in a bit of an accident on the M1 this morning, three cars shunted in front of him, he managed to stop in time, but the car behind him didn't :| so his car got shunted from the rear. It was a lease car and not his own thankfully.

A bed for the night!

I managed to get the bit of logging work I'd done yesterday checked in and that's it for a couple of days now as I've got a couple more days' Plone work to do.

Basically I needed to investigate some other functionality, which involved installing some plug-ins, which doesn't sound much - but there were some issues with one of them. I still didn't fully get to the bottom of it, so I know what I'll be doing tomorrow!

I made another trip to the Post Office at lunchtime - another eBay package.

In the evening we went to the gym a bit earlier than usual so that it wouldn't be too late for me to pop down to Kevin's to sort out Charlotte's laptop. She just needed her email sorting out and Office installing, which was easy enough. They don't have a wireless router and so the laptop has to be connected via ethernet, however I've got a spare wireless router that I was going to ut on eBay that she can have. I arrnaged to go round to install it on Monday (Bank Holiday).

We had tea when I got home, just after 9pm, a bit later Nikki's brother Keith turned up. He'd been at a rugby match at Headingley and had arranged to stop over before heading back down to Gosport early tomorrow morning.

Some baking!

We were both awoken by with a start Postie ringing the bell with a couple of parcels this morning -he was earlier than normal!

At work, before we began yet another estimating session  I had a look at the logging and documentation stuff because it still hasn;t been done. I did think we had done some testing round it when we did it in one of the previous projects, but I couldn't find it so it. So it appears there's some work required there then!

The estimating thankfully wasn't one of the marathon sessions we'd experienced previously - not sure whether that was down to only a few of us being in it or the fact that we'd estimated some of the tasks before. Anyway it was essentially over by lunchtime.

I had to make another trip to the Post Office to send off the couple of eBay items that had sold yesterday, I also went to get some provisions for Nikki to be able to bake a plum cake and pie.

I continued looking at the logging stuff in the afternoon as there was no point me starting anything on the new iteration becuase I'll be working on Plone for the next couple of days.

In the evening, after tea, Nikki did the cake and pie baking as planned and I did some ironing.

I'd had another eBay payment which will mean yet another trip to the Post Office again tomorrow lunchtime!

Going through the motions...

I continued with a bit more work on the styling, before the showcase at 11am (which again appeared to provoke little interest from those in attendance ).

At lunchtime I nipped out to the Post Office to end off an eBay item. We had the retrospective in the afternoon, although it just felt like going through the motions more than anything else.

My mate Kevin's daughter Charlotte rang me to see if I wouldn't mind going down to finish off installing the necessary bits and bobs on her laptop. We agreed on Wednesday evening.

One of the chaps at work had brought in some apples and plums from the trees in his garden, so I took some plums - Nikki says she'll make a pie with them. :)

When we got home I'd sold a couple more bits on eBay, so I packaged those up and it looks like I'll be off to the Post Office again tomorrow lunchtime!

We went to the gym and keep fit as usual and then watched a couple of bits we'd recorded - including the start of the new series of Deal Or No Deal.

Non in stock...

It was another fairly early Sunday morning, in order to go to the gym.

Once we got home and got sorted we headed of into Leeds, I wanted to have a look at some Fred Perry polo shirts (that the shop didn't have in stock anyway ). We also had a look in TK Maxx to see if they had more Le Creuset stuff, which they did, so we got a few more bits.

From there we went over to my sister Jacqueline's as it was her son Mark's 18th on Thursday and we needed to give him his card. We were there for a couple of hours or so and we arranged to go out next Saturday night for something to eat.

We watched a few bit on the box in the evening - The Tudors we'd recorded from Friday and then a one-off drama starring Timothy Spall called Gunrush which was pretty good.

Not brilliant...

Nikki had an appointment at the hairdressers ay 9:15am and I had some eBay items to package up, So I did that while Nikki had her hair cut, we then both went into Pudsey - I had a parcel to tpick up from the Post Office, a pair of Levis 501 jeans I'd bought en eBay and I sent the stuff I'd packaged up.

Form there we went onto Bradofrso to get some bits. We called in at TK Maxx, I got a new shirt, we got some Le Creuset cookware for the kitchen - nice gloss black plus a few bits that will do for Christmas presents.

We then went to the TK Maxx at Crown Point t see whether they had any more Le Creuset stuff, but they didn't, however we did get some other Christmas presents.

We watched a some television in the evening, Red Bukk X-Fighters Freestyle moto-cross from Battersea power station which was okay, not brilliant though...

No sense of humour...

Not much to report from work really, I spent the day doing some more restyling, getting some consistency within the pages and moving some error messages so they didn't interfere with the screen. Not much interaction with my colleagues, other than a bit of chit-chat. It's a far cry from the working environment of this time last year, :( Once upon a time I actually enjoyed going to work, however these days that's not the case... Language that's perhaps fit for the factory floor, definitely not for an office environment especially when there's a young woman present doesn't help. I've already complained twice about it, but obviously that's had no effect, so I shall be having words on Monday with regard to taking it further if the situation doesn't improve.

I needed to get some petrol, but rather than do it at lunchtime, we called in on the way home, thankfully the garage wasn't too busy!

Nikki went off to do the shopping not long after we got home and I finished off my eBay listings, getting them all all uploaded for 7pm and within the hour I'd had quite a bit of interest - especially in the scooter bits!

Later on we watched our usual Friday evening fix of German television - which was far more entertaining than anything on offer on British television - a sad indictment indeed, given that Germans don't allegedly have a sense of humour...

Reddage!

When I got to work this morning I found the stuff Iain and I worked on yesterday had caused the build to go red due to Selenium tests failing. When we investigated, it appeared there was a problem with the data the Selenium tests were using because when we ran them over any of the other databases they all ran perfectly. :| Then a bit later on they just started running okay on the build server. So nobody was sure what went on there.

Once that was out of the way it gave us chance to go through the acceptance criteria. We'd pretty much covered most of the scenarios but had missed a couple, so we got the test written around those and that was that chunk finished.

Mark needed some help with a bit of CSS in the afternoon so I helped him out with that as well as making a few minor tweaks to some other bits of styling.

We went to the gym and keep fit as usual in the evening, I also managed to get a few eBay listings done, I;ve got some wording to do on th rest and then hopefully I'll be able to put them up tomorrow night.

No choice...

I continued with what I'd been working on and just about finished it. which is good news! All there is to do tomorrow is run through the acceptance criteria and make sure everything's covered and then I'll be able to move onto something else.

I also had another one-to-one with my team leader, I let him know I'm still not happy about the way things are going, but I'm just living with it as I don't appear to have much choice. :|

In the evening we went to the gym, I spoke to my mum, she and George are off to Devon for a few days tomorrow. I had planned to continue with the eBay listing but by the time we'd had tea it was getting a bit late.

More than half!

I did have a little bit more enthusiasm at work today than I did yesterday! Iain and I cracked on and got quite a few tests written around the new stuff we're implementing, plus we did a bit of refactoring. With a bit of luck we might see it all coming together tomorrow!

It was chores evening which meant us cleaning the bathrooms and changing the bed. Once that was all done I started doing some eBay listings for the items I photographed at the weekend. As always that took some time - but I managed to get eight out of the fourteen items done, hopefully I'll be able to get the rest done this week and then the lisitngs can go up at the weekend.

No enthusiasm...

Can't say I was that enthused at work today, back working on the Java stuff. I did some more bits of styling and then I picked up a story and worked on that with Iain. As a precursor to doing it we had some refactoring to do. I also managed to get Cobertura (the code coverage tool) to run as part of our local build scripts so we could tell how much test coverage we have before checking the code in. We wrote a few tests and we'll no doubt continue tomorrow.

I gave the barbecue a clean out when we got home before putting it away in the garage.

We then went to the gym and keep fit as normal and watched a bit of telly when we got home.

Frankly awful!

We got up at 9:30am and went to the gym. As we hadn't been for a few days due to the redecoration it was a bit harder work than usual. The redecoration is interesting to say the least! Some of the walls have been given a lick of white paint to brighten the place up, but then a two of the wall have been painted a rather vivid purple colour - which quite frankly is awful!

The weather was a little better today than it was yesterday but it still wasn't brilliant. Nikki cut the grass and I photographed a few bits from the garage to put on eBay. Later on I set my flash gear up to photograph some other bits. While I was doing that Nikki did a bit of studying for her IMI course.

I spoke to my sister Jacqueline to find out what, if anything she'd got planned for her son Mark's 18th (whose birthday it is today but he's away on holiday in Greece). She didn't have anything concrete but said she'd let me know.

There wasn't a huge amount on the box in the evening and the episodes of Swiss Railway Journeys that we had recorded were all ones we'd seen before. So we actually didn't have the television on for a while.

Bloomin' weather!

We didn't have to but up especially early today, but we id have some bits to do. We had Matt & Charlotte and Jonny coming round for a barbecue later on and we needed some provisions. We went to Aldi, then Tescos and finally Morrisons for those. The weather wasn't looking too promising and rain was forecast so we thought it might be an idea to try to get a gazebo, but none of the supermarkets we'd been to had any and neither did B&Q so we had to do without.

Matt & Charlotte arrived about 3pm, we lit the barbecue just after 4pm and just as it got nicely ready to cook on the heavens opened! We tried using the parasol as shelter but it didn't work and we had to abandon it in favour of cooking indoors. Jonny turned up about 5;15pm - just in time for the food.

It was a pleasant evening. Matt & Charlotte brought their three year old son, Daniel and he was as good as gold. They'd brought some DVDs for him to watch and he was perfectly happy.

They all left about 8pm, Jonny was meant to be staying over but hadn't been sleeping too well so wanted a night in his own bed.

Once we'd got washed up we watched a bit on the box before getting an early night.

Another fan!

As I hadn't managed to get as much done on Plone as I'd hoped yesterday I spent a bit of time this morning doing a bit more. At least today the server was able t connect to the outside world. That meant I could create a new instance, update it and download the necessary plug-ins. Once I'd done that I then copied the content from the current site across and did some styling so that it was easy to differentiate between the live and development instances.

In the afternoon I was able to get back to some Java. There wasn't much point starting a story this afternoon so a couple of colleagues a hand with what they'd been working on. I had a chat with the new contractor, I haven't had much chance to talk to him, but this afternoon I did. It appears he too is a skier and has been to Meribel and too is a big fan!

When it got to 4:30pm I realised I hadn't heard from Nikki - it was only when I pulled my phone out of my pocket it wasn't switched on! When I spoke to Nikki she said she'd been trying to ring me since 4pm!

After we got home, Nikki went off to so the shopping, I had a look at a couple of bits of Plone stuff as there were some plug-ins I wanted to investigate.

Once we'd had tea we sat down and watched some television, mostly on the German channel Sat 1, Schmidt in the City plus some other comedy shows which were qite amusing.

Lost contact...

I spent the day working on Plone again today, but I didn't achieve as much as I'd hoped. There had been some issues with the servers at Milton Keynes which meant the server that Plone is installed on wasn't able to contact the outside world and so I was unable to run some of the update scripts.

Instead I used the time to do some investigation on a couple of things my team leader wanted me to look at, one of which was to be able to hide the edit tab in certain circumstances.

In the evening Nikki went to keep fit, I gave the gym a miss due to the decorating going on. I used the time to make several phone calls (now that we've got the landline back!). I spoke to my mum, then our friends Matt & Charlotte and Jonny, who are coming over on Saturday for a barbecue (weather permitting of course!)

We watched a few bits on television later on, including an old episode of Boon - which was rather poorly acted it as has to be said!

Getting it back!

After the full day of estimating yesterday I had a break from the Java work to do a bit of work on Plone. There are a couple of things that my team leader wants me to look at so I've been allocated a couple of days to have a look at that.

I created another instance from the existing one which will become the new development environment. I also changed the styling a bit so it is obvious which of the two environments is the development one.

Nick also wanted a bit of assistance with some jQuery he was doing, so I was happy to oblige.

The gym is being redecorated and so we gave it a miss this evening. After tea I put some CDs into iTunes. A bit later on we had a visit from a BT Openreach engineer who'd come to look at our phone line. He tested the line and came to the conclusion that the problem was at the exchange, so he popped off down there to take a look. Within the hour we had our dial-tone back! :D Interestingly I gave Sky my mobile number last night but they didn't let me know that an engineer would be coming.

Plenty more coming up!

It was another estimating session today - and a full day at that! We quickly managed to get through the work for the next iteration pretty quickly but as the sponsor will have to stump up some more cash for the next chunk of work we needed to estimate the work required.

It seems we've got an awful lot more work to do if the money gets signed off - at least another three iterations in fact! This is to add some more functionality for another concession that wouldn't be able to use the application as it currently stands. It will be interesting to see what happens when we enquire of a third concessionaire!

In the evening I was going out with Nick and our old work colleague John, but beforehand I thought it would give Sky a call because we've been having some trouble with our landline - no dial tone. I was on the phone for half an hour, during which time I spoke to three different people. At least the third person I spoke to managed to find what the problem was and it was to do with something outside of our control so they would look into it.

That meant we were slightly late setting off to pick John up. Thankfully the traffic was quite light so we managed to pick John up almost on time. Just like the last time we went out, we met Nick in the White Cross in Guiseley, had a drink and then went across the road the the Bella Italia. Again just like the last time the atmosphere was lacking, but the food was nice. It was then back to the White Cross for another couple of drinks - however unlike the last time we were out they did serve John and Nick with a Drambuie!

Nick picked me up around 11pm, we dropped John off home and were back home for 11:30pm.

Lack of interest...

We had a few issues this morning - typical as it was the showcase! Firstly there was an issue where the label PDF wouldn't display and that turned out to be my fault, I'd removed a line from the JavaScript that I'd been doing on Friday. We unfortunately didn't find the root cause until after the showcase and so had to revert the code to the previous verison which didn't work correctly. Then we had a problem with the label printer itself.

Not that anyone at the showcase noticed, in fact there seemed to be a distinct lack of interest from those in attendance. :-/ Something that more than one of us brought up at this afternoon's retrospective.

The retrospective was a bit more positive than previous ones and it wasn't as long either. We also had a Java team meeting later on, though nothing of much came out of it, it was more of an update than anything else. So that was the day, meetings mostly but I was glad I found the problem with the JavaScript! Now all I've got to d is sort out why the printer doesn't want to print properly.

In the evening we did the usual Monday night gym and keep fit. I won a couple of shirts on eBay. I also tried to give my mum a call but we seem to have lost our phone connection to the outside world, we have no dial tone.

Bit of a touch up!

We had a bit of a lie-in and so it was a bit late to be going to the gym. Nikki wanted to get some Pathclear to rid the drive of weeds so we nipped down to Wilkinsons in Armley to get some.

The weather was really nice so we did some more bits in the garden. The fence needed touching up where it had faded so I did that while Nikki cut the grass and did a bit of trimming.

I had hoped to get my car washed but it was too bright, so unfortunately it'll have to wait.

We watched a few bits on television in the evening, I also bought a pair of jeans on eBay.

Scooters!

I had to be up early as my scooter was booked in for its MOT at 9 and I needed to put a bit of petrol and make sure it would start! We had some petrol in a cannister for the lawnmower so I used that. I needn't have worried about it starting though, it started second kick - obviously getting it running last week did the trick!

It had 8 miles on the clock when I took it last year, this year it had 13 - a whopping 5 miles in a year then! The chap that did the MOT said he walked further than that with his dog every day! Anyway it passed the MOT with no issues.

While I was doing that, Nikki popped into Pudsey to get a few bits. After we'd were sorted we then got the bus into Leeds as I wanted to get some new trousers for work. TK Maxx came up trumps with one pair and then I got another two pairs from Slaters. We didn't need much more and so came back home after all we'd be going back again to the theatre, this time to see Quadrophenia.

There were quite a number of scooters about because it was the annual Leeds Crusaders do, had we not had stuff on I might have gone along.

We pottered about doing a few minor bits in the garden when we got home before getting ready to go into town. We got the bus at 5:30pm and went for tea at Wagamamas before going to The North Bar (bloomin' expensive that place!) and then to The Grand.

Neither of us was sure what to expect of Quadrophenia. It wasn't like the film, in fact there wasn't any dialogue at all, it was all acted out with the songs from the album (plus a few others). Some of the singing was good but some left a bit to be desired! Overall it was okay, not brilliant but a worthwhile experience.

It finished very early - 9:30pm, afterwards we went to All Bar One for a couple of drinks before getting the bus back home.

Dreaming...

After spending all day (and most of the evening!) yesterday working on jQuery, I then spent the night bloomoin' dreaming about it! Which meant I didn't get much of a break from it!

Anyway at least I did manage to get the full functionality completed this morning, I then had a look at the tests that had written around this functionality. I had my suspicions as to how someone had managed to allegedly write tests around non-working code, but once I looked at the tests I could understand why - the were 'conveniently' written to pass... :> So I then set about rewriting those tests, it didn't take too long thankfully - after spending a full 24 hours working on it I had a pretty good idea what was required of them. Now they are fit for purpose!

I'd managed to get all that finished by early afternoon, so I gave a colleague a hand with what he was working on. We managed to get that all done (bar the look 'n' feel) so at least it will available for the showcase on Monday.

There was a slight issue with my buttons work. I said I'd have a look at it next week, but I had a look when I got home and it's going to be an easy fix. Interestingly it's an area where we don't have any tests (note - I didn't write this part of the functionality!), so I also came up with a way in which we may be able to test it - we'll see on Monday!

I did that while Nikki was out doing the shopping, but I'd finished by the time she got home. Once we had tea we sat down and watched a few bits on the box - in fact we watched some German television - one of which was Schmidt in the City, a fairly amusing programme involving a stand-up comedian doing a show in a different German city each week (though you may have been able to guess that from the title!)

Hard going...

Today was pretty much full on, I had hoped to help Nick out with what he was working on, but Andy needed me to have a look at the jQuery stuff around the buttons on the screen. He'd had a go, but to be honest hadn't understood anything about how it works, which meant what he'd put in didn't work and had an impact on the original functionality I'd coded. That said the functionality that's required around the buttons and input fields is pretty complicated - they want different things to happen depending on various circumstances (such as whether it is a new or existing booking and whether outthe fields contain values).

I spent the whole day working on it, but I found it hard to concentrate at points due to the noise in the office. At lunchtime I had a break to go and get some petrol.

Consequently I brought it home to have a go - at least I'd have some peace and quiet!

We both went to the gym as Nikki's keep fit instructor was ill. Once we'd returned I had a look at the stuff I'd brought home from work. It's amazing what being able to concentrate does. I'd rewritten it all and got about 95% of the functionality working as it should, I should be able to get the last bit sorted tomorrow.

Knowledge gap...

I was conscious that I'd made quite a number of code changes in my efforts to get the documentation stuff in, I was also conscious that I hadn't done any tests. So I got the code checked in this morning and then spent most of the day trying to get some tests written around my stuff. I know it's the wrong way to do things, but I as most of what I was doing was actually written by Thoughtworks and ported across from the Globe project I didn't have a clue where to start writing the tests first! As it was even after porting the tests across from Globe I realised I wouldn't have had a clue. Again another example of how much knowledge we lack and how much more we need to learn.

I didn't bother asking Andy for help as I'm sure he wouldn't have had a clue! I did give him some more assistance with some jQuery again. Nick also needed some help with what he was doing and it looks like I'll be pairing with him tomorrow to help him get the work finished.

Nick and I went to the gym in the early evening and then watched a couple of things on the box, I also won a mini tripod for my camera and a pair of Dr Marten shoes on eBay!

Not as quiet today!

There were more people in the office again today, so it wasn't as quiet as it was yesterday.

I had hoped to continue where I'd left off yesterday with the documentation stuff, but I didn't really achieve very much this morning as Nick needed some assistance with what he was working on to do with a JSP.

At lunchtime I made another trip to the Post Office to send out the last two eBay packages.

Nick was on a course in the afternoon, so I did manage to do some documentation work, as well as helping Andy with a bit of jQuery. Hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to put the finishing touches to it and then it will be up to people to put the relevant annotations into the code.

The evening was spent catching up on some chores, I did the ironing while Nikki cleaned the en-suite.

A backward step?

There weren't many of us in the office today, in fact there were only five of us, so it was pretty quiet.

I started out the day by fixing a couple of defects which weren't too taxing.

At lunchtime I popped out to the Post Office to send off another eBay item, then our Head of Department had another one of his lunchtime sessions about his vision for the department. This time it was about Java retraining and how it's going to happen. I'm not sure what those who are currently designers made of it all though, because once the retraining happens there won't be any designer roles and I'm sure some people won't want to retrain because they'll see becoming a developer as a step backwards.

In the afternoon I started having a look at putting the automatic documentation of the stored procedures into the application like I'd done in a previous projects.

Before doing the usual Monday evening thing I packaged up the last couple of eBay items ready for posting tomorrow.

A brief outing...

We got up and went to the gym as normal.

Thankfully the weather was much better today -in fact it was quite sunny and warm. My scooter is booked in for its MOT next Saturday, the last time I had it running was when it went for its MOT last year  so I needed to get it running. I'm glad I put the electronic ignition kit on when I did the restoration becuase it makes life much easier when it comes to starting. The petrol will have been a bit stale so starting it took quite a number of kicks, but once it was running that was it.

I took it out for a spin around Pudsey a couple of time and it was running really well.

Nikki did a bit of studying for her IMI course this afternoon, I had a bit of a look on t'internet.

In the evening we watched the last episode of Top Gear, which had a bit of a rather odd ending, :-/, we then watched Man On Wire which was a film about a Frenchman who, in 1974, walked across a tightrope between the Twin Towers in New York. It was a fascinating film.

By George!

We nipped into Pudsey first things, to take the eBay packages to the Post Office and to pick up a couple of parcels. The lens hoods and (rather smart!) black Harrington jacket I'd bought on eBay, plus the Limited Edition signed Chameleons Script Of The Bridge print I'd ordered a couple of weeks back. From there we went into Leeds to pay some cheques in at the bank. We then went to Asda at Qw lcotes, which has been refurbished which means everything has been moved around :> and it looks really cheap and nasty. We couldn't get everything we wanted from Asda and so went to Morrisons to get the rest!

The weather wasn't at its best again, so it wasn't a day for doing anything outside. I had a bit of a play on my guitar, Nikki did some ironing.

My mum and he chap George came over around tea-time. We had planned to have a barbecue but as the weather wasn't up to it, so we had more of a finger buffet. It was a nice evening, George is very pleasant and easy to get on with, he's also rather interesting to talk to. He's worked on a farm for most of his life and does sheep dog trials competitively, he also shows cattle at events such as the Great Yorkshire show. Most importantly he makes my mum happy, in fact I haven't seen her as happy in years.

As mum doesn't like driving in the dark they left around 8pm, we washed up and then sat down to watch Chicago that we'd recorded from the other week. Not quite what I was expecting, in fact it was better than I'd imagined, a little predictable perhaps and the ending was rather disappointing but watchable nevertheless.
